I saw my first Golden Eagle when I was eight years old soaring over a hill in Strathdearn and I was hooked. In my mind's eye I can still see it and I have had a fascination with wildlife and a love of the Cairngorms ever since.

After thirty years of public service I moved to Grantown on Spey with my wife and children where I started working as a professional birdwatching and wildlife tour guide.

The area remains a stronghold for so many rare and sought after species, but this is a vast and wild landscape and some species are thinly spread. Finding them can be challenging especially if your time is limited.

This is where the service and skills that I provide as a birdwatching and wildlife guide can make all the difference. I have an intimate understanding of where different species can be found at any given time of the year. I have detailed knowledge of the landscape and I will take you to the most inspiring and spectacular locations.

I am patient, relaxed and informal with a good sense of humour, but also very professional and focused on finding the species that matter to you and ensuring that your time spent with me will be enjoyable and memorable.

I can give expert advice on identification and informed background information on behaviour in proportion to your own levels of knowledge and experience.

I have led individuals and larger groups on fully guided birdwatching tours throughout the Cairngorms and wider Highlands and Islands. My guests have ranged from complete beginners, to expert birders and keen amateur and professional photographers. I am a guide in residence at the famous Grant Arms Hotel and I have guided alongside TV naturalists Iolo Williams, Mike Dilger, and Nick Baker.
